MODELING: five techniques, one single environment

 

 

Designcenter X (NX CAD) integrates wireframe, surface, solid, parametric, and direct modeling within the same environment, so you can choose the tool best suited to the task instead of being locked into a single method. Direct modeling with synchronous technology works through simple push-and-pull dragging and also works on geometry created in other CAD systems. For freeform design, hybrid modeling combines loft, sweep, and mesh techniques, with surface trimming, extension, and advanced surface transitions, alongside synchronous sculpting tools for surfaces and solids using Class A methods. You can also import 3D scan data as facets, without having to manually reconstruct surfaces.



ASSEMBLIES and SHEET METAL

 

 

Assembly management supports both top-down and bottom-up techniques, with structures and access-control constraints for parametric assemblies that simplify configurations, options, and variants — designed for teams managing complex assembly projects on a daily basis. For sheet metal, Designcenter X (NX CAD) incorporates industry knowledge on material properties and bending processes, allowing the model to represent both the formed component and the flattened blank shape, and to quickly convert solid models into sheet metal components.



CAM: from geometry to toolpath

 

 

The manufacturing module covers 2.5 to 5-axis milling, turning, rotary and multi-axis machining for complex geometries, on-machine inspection and probing, feature-based part programming, and toolpath simulation with collision verification before sending the program to the machine..



CAE: multidisciplinary simulation

 

 

Analyses are powered by the Simcenter Nastran solver, with dedicated modules for fluid dynamics (NX Flow), thermal analysis including coupled solid-fluid analysis (NX Thermal), kinematic and dynamic analysis of moving mechanisms (NX Motion), and bidirectional interfaces with Ansys, Abaqus, and LS-Dyna for those working with external solvers.



MOLD DESIGN

 

 

Designcenter X (NX CAD) automates the mold development process starting from the product model, with automatic shutoffs and automatic core/cavity separation, fast and associative parting surface design, mold splitting for complex sliders, automatic interference checking, and definition of the entire structure — core, cavity, component systems, mold base — for both prototype and multi-cavity production molds, configurable from libraries of standard components. It includes dedicated quality checks (draft angles, parting lines, cooling), fill analysis with Design for Manufacturability verification, and associative design of EDM electrodes.



MECHATRONIC DESIGN

 

 

Mechatronics Concept Designer enables a multidisciplinary approach that breaks down barriers between mechanical, electrical, and automation engineers. With the Reuse Library, you can add joints, motions, sensors, actuators, and collision behavior to the functional model, enabling interactive, physics-based simulation that verifies how the machine works before it's built — detecting and correcting errors in the digital model before they become a physical problem.

Artificial Intelligence

Designcenter Copilot, built on Industrial Copilot with the Microsoft Phi-3 engine, offers a conversational interface for analyzing design data, getting advice on trade-offs between weight and structural integrity, or being guided through a design process specific to your industry. This is complemented by voice commands, an adaptive user interface that anticipates commands based on context, predictive selection of similar faces and components, predictive product manufacturing information (PMI) for model-based definition, and search for existing parts to avoid redesigning from scratch.
Immersive Engineering

Designcenter Immersive Designer, developed with Sony, pairs the Designcenter software with Sony's XR headset, which features two 4K OLED microdisplays per eye, supporting both immersive input and traditional mouse and keyboard, with controllers optimized for precise model editing and a lightweight HMD designed for extended work sessions. Designcenter Immersive Explorer allows you to review designs in virtual reality by launching it directly from the Designcenter or Designcenter X workspace, with live design updates, access to the Assembly Navigator in VR, visualization of mechatronic animations generated by Mechatronics Concept Designer, and review tools such as environmental annotations and snapshots. Moving from CAD to VR takes just one click, with no need to prepare or export data.
