    The Generative Design builds on the traditional design approach by applying computing power and optimization techniques to component design.

    Generative design allows designers to reduce both the weight and the amount of material used for a specific component while maintaining its structural integrity. Solid Edge, thanks to 3D topological optimization, allows small assemblies to be replaced with a single component, reducing manufacturing costs and BOM complexity.

    Components optimized by generative design can be further modified with convergent modeling and synchronous technology. The results in mesh format are seamlessly integrated into the normal model editing process, enabling the final design needed for the task at hand. It is no longer necessary to wait for the completion of time-consuming and inaccurate conversions of triangular meshes to b-rep.

    Solid Edge 3D parametric CAD seamlessly combines traditional solid “b-rep” models with triangular mesh models, without time-consuming or error-prone conversions. Siemens Digital Industries convergent modeling makes it possible to perform traditional B-rep operations on scanned 3D data and models produced by generative design, eliminating remakes and supporting modern additive manufacturing processes for complex shapes. You can simplify the’use of 3D data acquired by scanning. This data is imported into Solid Edge as mesh or faceted body data, so you can go straight into design. It is no longer necessary to perform lengthy conversion processes, create manual shapes, or rebuild surfaces. Thanks to convergent modeling, optimized components resulting from generative design can be sent directly to the analysis or additive manufacturing stage, or be further modified in Solid Edge.
