Opcenter APS - Advanced Planning Schedule

Siemens' Opcenter Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) enables manufacturers to react quickly and respond to shorter lead times and meet customer demands

Opcenter APS tools can be used for long-term strategic production planning that covers months or years, medium-term tactical planning with a time horizon of a few weeks, and detailed sequencing and scheduling activities.

What is APS?

APS (Advanced Planning and Scheduling) is a technology designed to manage planning and production scheduling by dynamically integrating data from orders, resource availability, production capacity, and material inventories. Using powerful algorithms, an APS system creates realistic production plans that can be updated in real time, increasing the company’s responsiveness to changes in demand and critical operational conditions.

The challenge for companies

Managing production in complex and highly variable environments is one of the most significant challenges for manufacturing companies. Static production plans, unable to adapt quickly to changes, can lead to inefficiencies, delivery delays and increased operating costs. The increasing pressure to reduce time-to-market and ensure high service levels makes it essential to equip oneself with tools that can anticipate and manage production complexity.

Var Industries' approach

Var Industries takes a strategic view of advanced scheduling, implementing solutions based on Siemens Opcenter APS. This platform enables synchronization of the entire production chain, optimizing the sequence of operations and ensuring maximum efficiency in resource utilization. Through integration with ERP and MES systems, Opcenter APS provides comprehensive and up-to-date visibility of production, enabling rapid and informed decisions.

Why choose Opcenter APS?

Manage Product Variations

Opcenter Scheduling uses native scheduling algorithms capable of considering multiple product attributes and grouping operations efficiently to minimize changeover time and ensure that all orders are delivered on schedule.

Take Constraints into Account

As a multi-vendor scheduling tool, Opcenter Scheduling takes into account the availability of materials, equipment, and labor to generate a realistic and achievable schedule.
This gives planners the confidence that the task lists sent to departments can be executed effectively.

Manage Demand Variability

When demand fluctuates, the process starts from long-term orders and forecasts.
Once the system calculates the required output, planners can easily visualize and interact with the results to understand how variations in demand might affect actual production capacity.

Consider Complex Subsets

With Opcenter Scheduling, it is possible to manage the production and availability of subassemblies, whether they are produced under the scheduler’s control or externally, ensuring a feasible schedule and allowing early detection and resolution of material availability issues.

Sustainable scheduling with Opcenter APS

In the modern industrial landscape, sustainability represents a strategic priority. The manufacturing sector is among the main contributors to energy consumption and CO₂ emissions, and companies are increasingly being called upon to rethink their production models with a focus on environmental responsibility.

Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) solutions, such as Siemens Opcenter APS, play a key role in this transformation by integrating sustainability goals into production planning.

Opcenter APS enables the inclusion of data related to energy consumption, CO₂ emissions, costs, and other production constraints within the model, providing the flexibility to balance operational efficiency, environmental sustainability, and economic objectives. Through an advanced system of weighting rules, companies can make optimized decisions that reduce environmental impact, improve resource utilization, and streamline production processes.

This solution is part of the portfolio of digital manufacturing technologies offered by Var Group, supporting industrial transformation increasingly driven by responsible innovation.

Opcenter APS 2510: discover the new version!

Opcenter APS 2510 delivers enhanced visibility and greater control, two essential capabilities in today’s increasingly challenging supply chain environment. This new release is designed to simplify the planning process, reduce manual effort, and improve overall system responsiveness.

One of the key new features in Opcenter APS 2510 is a fully configurable alert window, which significantly improves how planners monitor shopfloor activities by providing real-time visibility into production issues directly within APS.

This functionality is compatible with any MES system, ensuring maximum flexibility. Alerts are updated automatically, helping boost operational agility and reducing delays caused by issues that are unreported or reported too late.

Dashboard APS2510
  • Material Explorer Enhancements

Opcenter APS 2510 makes planners’ work faster and easier, even when managing highly complex Bills of Materials. Key improvements include the new “Show shortages only” view, which allows planners to quickly filter missing materials, and the ability to copy values directly from the results table or export them for further analysis.

  • Secondary Constraint Event Type

Opcenter APS can now trigger events whenever a value changes or a threshold is reached for secondary constraints—such as tool or operator availability—even when primary constraints like machine availability remain unchanged. This enables the scheduler to react more intelligently, optimize the plan more effectively, and give planners greater control over complex production scenarios.

  • Enhanced Integration with Opcenter IPL (Intra Plant Logistics)

Opcenter APS 2510 now supports the real-time import of material availability data, ensuring planners always work with the most accurate and up-to-date information. Reliable, non-obsolete data reduces the risk of planning based on incorrect inventory levels, enabling more accurate, efficient, and synchronized production schedules aligned with actual stock levels.

  • Integration with Opcenter and MES Essentials

This release strengthens communication between planning and the shopfloor, ensuring a continuous and up-to-date information flow. Once the production plan is finalized, shopfloor status updates are automatically collected and displayed in the alert window, providing real-time visibility and enabling faster, more informed decisions throughout the entire production process.

  • OpenID Connect Support

Support for enterprise identity providers—such as Microsoft Entra ID—has been improved, even when using subdomains that differ from the broadcaster’s domain. This update resolves common authentication issues, making Opcenter APS more flexible, more compatible with a wider range of corporate identity systems, and more secure for enterprise access management.
