Designcenter X NX CAD: comparing the four tiers

Designcenter X NX is organized into four cumulative tiers: Essentials, Standard, Advanced, and Premium — each one built on top of the previous one, not as an alternative to it.

The four tiers

Essentials (formerly Zel X)

What it adds

AI-assisted predictive modeling via browser, a fixed set of CNC operations (facing, pocketing, contouring, slotting, chamfering, drilling, tapping, boring, thread milling), additive manufacturing tools for rapid prototyping, validation simulations for structural integrity, permission-based sharing with unlimited guest access, and augmented reality. Not eligible as a base for Value Based Licensing.

Standard (formerly NX Mach 1)

What it adds

Full modeling of typical 3D parts and assemblies, sheet metal design, 2D technical documentation, and Teamcenter integration — which at this tier covers MCAD data management, document management, check-in/check-out, visualization, revisions and release, revision configuration, where-used indication, discussions, and activities. It still includes Essentials' browser access, rather than replacing it.

Advanced (formerly NX Mach 2)

What it adds

Real-time automated design validation, photorealistic rendering, and 3D annotation (Model Based Definition) to reduce reliance on 2D drawings.

Premium (formerly NX Mach 3)

What it adds

Everything in Standard and Advanced, plus electromechanical design, flexible PCBs, complex system routing, and web-based editing tools with basic-level Teamcenter data management included.

What's not included in the four tiers: Value Based Licensing

Features such as mold design, format translators, or advanced analysis don't scale up through these four tiers — they remain separate and are added through Designcenter X NX Value Based Licensing, the token-based system, which requires a base Standard, Advanced, or Premium license (not Essentials).
